Something I think would be cool to do!

I’m always looking for new inspiration, new ways for you guys to see what I see. Sounds hokey, I know, but part of me wants you guys to understand where I get my ideas from.

Granted, there’s another part of me that’s screaming and dragging it’s feet as I move forward, but that’s ok, a little fear never hurt anyone! And I’m going to be making some pretty big changes in the shop this year.

One of the things I want to do so you guys can see my inspiration process is this:

A Photo A Day For April

I kinda hope you guys will hang around and watch what happens!

Meanwhile, we had an early evening rain storm again today, so I’ve got the windows open so the smell of honeysuckle can come through the windows and it’s gorgeous.

Oh, and I’m watching Ancient Aliens. Dude’s hair has it’s own personality, doesn’t it?

Stay tuned, let’s see what we can come up with!

Spring means babies!

Hey y’all! I’m back! Did you miss me? I’ve been pretty busy over here in the foothills, but I’m not going to complain. Well, I do have one complaint that I’ll tell you about, but not just yet!

I think the biggest news for me & my family is that back at the beginning of the month, I actually got to meet my father for the first time. It had been a long time coming, and he said I’d gotten taller since the last time he saw me LOL! Apparently I have his sense of humour. He also said I looked just like his dad, through and through. There were a lot of questions, of course, and they got answered and now I know where my eyes and ears come from. And I am so happy and thrilled to have finally met him and his amazing wife, Carol and her sisters, Celia and Sylvia. I’m not going to say that now my life is complete, because I have a damned good life, but I will say this: my life is even more full now and I wouldn’t trade any of it for all the gold in the world. And I think the best part was when he and I were sitting on the couch, talking about how we eat our hamburgers (lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, no ketchup or mayo) he told me “I always knew you’d come home.” And it was my hubby, Danny, who made it happen. He just gets better and better, doesn’t he?

And now on to shop news! WOO HOO! I have pregnant friends! And to be honest with you, I am so glad I can’t have any more children. That being said, I really do relish holding other people’s babies! So, because of these pregnant friends, I have been making baby stuff for the Baby Shop! And they are way too cute, if I say so myself! the first of the spring baby projects was this Blossom hat:Untitled

Isn’t it cute? I had this yarn in my stash for what seemed like forever and just couldn’t figure out what to do with it until I learned this petal stitch and now I want to cover everything in it! LOL

And then, today I made this: Pink dahlia 2

OMG I’ve already had so much feedback on it on  The Uglee Little Facebook  and I just posted on The Uglee Little Twitter so I’m waiting to hear back from the lovely people over there on how much they love it! One of my friends has already decided she needs to have a little girl just so she can have this! LOL

I’ve got a couple more things I’m working on for the Baby Shop, and I’ll post them as I get them done!

And just in case you’re wondering, I have discovered Pic Monkey and have started using it to make my pictures even prettier! Never thought I would hear myself say that, as I am pretty technologically challenged, but there you have it!

Now I am off! I have baby stuff to make!

Fat Tuesday feels like a Monday to me

It’s been a long weekend here in the foothills. And now it’s Tuesday, but it sure does feel like a Monday to me! OMG!

Over the long weekend, I found a pattern for a shrug, and it was a nice pattern, but not quite me so, of course I altered it. Imagine that LOL

I think I spend a lot of time altering patterns I find, or just kind of “winging it” with an idea I have knocking around in my head, and that can be fun, but it can also be very frustrating at times. Especially when the project on my hooks isn’t measuring up to the idea I had in my head. I don’t spend a lot of time frogging the whole thing, since I’m pretty good at spotting where the change needs to be, but still I’m never happy when I have to frog something!

Meanwhile, I’m hoping the sun stays out longer than just a few minutes today, all the cold, damp and grey is driving me insane and making me feel a little short-tempered, although I think I’ve controlled it pretty well this time around!

The only other news I have is that we are taking a trip back to my hometown! Next week! I’m so excited! I get to meet my father for the first time, get to see my very best friend in the whole world, Sam (who made me the coolest recycled plastic bag purse) and other friends I’ve not seen since I moved here to the foothills! It’s gonna be a good trip, let me tell you!

Hey Hey Hey!

It’s finally Friday! WOO HOO! I wish I actually had some pictures of the projects I finished this week! You’d be so super proud of me!

So, here’s a recap of all the stuff I’ve done this week! I started walking again on Monday. Discovered I can cover 2.5 miles in 30 minutes, as long as I have my boy Bruno with me. Bugz isn’t a great hiker, like my hubby Danny, he’s built more for luxury than speed. I didn’t get to walk yesterday or today due to a dentist appointment yesterday and a vet appointment for well-dog checks this morning. So, I’m now playing catch-up on the things I usually do in the mornings.

But, I thought it would be nice to show you some of the things Bruno and I have seen on our walks this week!

C'mon Mom! Let's get the show on the road!

Hang on, I gotta check out this mail box post, to, um, make sure it's safe!

We live in the middle of all of this!

And we have a secret little creek

The Guardian of the Hill to Hell. He's a noisy little bugger

Ok Mom, our driveway is safe, no other dogs have been here since we've been gone

And that’s just a few of the things Bruno saw on his hikes this week!

This weekend, I am hoping to get new pictures for the things in the shop and get those updated, as well as getting these felted items finished and then decorating the baby booties I made. So, I have a busy few days ahead of me.

And don’t forget our efforts to help Sidewalk Angels. For every item sold in the shop, we are donating $2 to them, since they do such wonderful things. Help us to help them!

Hello again!

New-York-Giants---3D---logo

Can you tell who my house was rooting for last night? Yep, the Giants! WOO HOO! And now Eli has more Superbowl rings than his big brother Peyton and he has proven, once again, that Tom Brady and the Patriots are not the end all and be all of football.

Now I can get more into my fave sport, HOCKEY! Here are my fave teams in the NHL:

Philadelphia Flyers 3x5 Flag_400

nashville-predators

So yeah, there you have it!

Last night during the game, I worked up a wool, rolled brim hat. Made it bigger than I needed, since I am going to felt it today. It’s another new pattern, so we’ll see how it works out and then I will post a picture of it!

Meanwhile, I’m going to grab another cup of coffee . . .

04 February 2012

OMG how late can this start of the year post really be?

Yes, I have been incredibly distracted lately. There’s just so  much going on around here in the foothills. So, even though I had intended to post this over a month ago, I obviously didn’t. Forgive me?

I’ve been having to sit and think quite a lot about ULT and what my goals and dreams and visions for this little business of mine are. It’s been really difficult, since I’ve not been able to fully concentrate on it as much as I would like. Life happens, and when it happens around here, it’s like living through an Antarctic winter, with all the wind and swirling snow. But, then I think about the Emperor penguins who winter-over at the bottom of the world, protecting their eggs, and I wonder “Why can’t I be like them?” And it hits me. I have bills I have to try to pay, and the only thing those penguins have to do is protect their eggs to make sure their babies survive. It’s hard to make sure your baby survives when you have to figure out where the money for the water bill is going to come from.

But then I go and do something good, something that I want to do and it makes me feel good, until I get hit with the harsh reality that no one else seems to be supporting the endeavour. The good thing I’m doing is the sale to support Sidewalk Angels. And I’m still determined to make it work, I’m getting hits on the website, but none are converting to sales and I’m not sure why. We’ve redesigned the shop pages, publicised the fund-raising, done everything we can thing of to get something going, with virtually zero results. I have 3 very loyal clients who I love to pieces, but ULT can’t survive with only 3 clients, no matter how awesome they truly are (looking at you Laura, Tracey and Tracey W. <3 you guys!)

So that leaves me wondering what else I can do to make this work. And I’m lost. And frustrated.

Today is a cold, rainy day here in the foothills, so I am going to finish my selfish crochet, so I feel like I’ve accomplished something. This is a pic of the pattern, I wrote it myself! I have one of the warmers finished, the second one is almost there. I should also pick up some buttons at some point.
